Designing the irresistible circular society

Our global mutual challenge is quite clear: we are overshooting. We use and consume much more than we give back to the planet. To accelerate the necessary change, a broad circle of stakeholders across architecture, academia, art and various professions have joined forces to develop a joint bid for the New European Bauhaus.

Previous event

Dialogue-meeting

Opening dialogue about consolidating a call. The meeting invited a diverse multi-disciplinary eco-system of prominent and resourceful actors to be involved and start conversations about the New European Bauhaus initiative. After this meeting, it was clear that there was support from multiple strong and engaging actors for consolidating a Danish-led bid to the Bauhaus call.

Co-design Workshop no. 1

PREVIOUS EVENT This was the first of two workshops, it was the first step in defining the mission and which challenges would be the 'angles of action'. With inputs from more than 150 people from different backgrounds, we succeeded in having a co-design process and crystallization of a common ambition, core values, and a unified narrative.

Co-design Workshop no. 2

In the second of two co-designing workshops, the focus was to further mature and consolidate concepts and cross-sectional themes identified in the first workshop. Through the two workshops, we established new conversations across sectors and pinpointed the interconnection between visions and concrete actions creating new alliances while exploring the possibilities of interdisciplinarity and cross-sectoral collaboration.

High-Level Roundtable no. 1 & 2

A diversity of professionals from across disciplines gathered to discuss and further explore the mission and challenge areas. With around 50 participants spread across two roundtables, a confirmation for the overall mission and challenge areas was established.

The EU commission has launched 10 prizes for examples of beautiful, sustainable, inclusive places. The Prizes recognise and celebrate existing achievements and support further development of emerging concepts and ideas.

Project Workshop 1

After defining the ‘angles of action’ during the feasibility study and co-designing workshops, three project groups will be meeting simultaneously in order to secure qualification of the challenges and designation of the overall concept. The purpose is the development of two core challenges within each angle of action. The current description of angles of actions (themes) will be unfolded in order to create a common understanding and a common starting point. Lastly, the groups should answer the following: How does the challenge contribute to a new aesthetic, strengthen inclusion and circularity?

Project Workshop 2

The project groups, consisting of professionals, researchers, companies, artists i.a, will be meeting for the second time in order to continue the work they started on the first workshop. They will continue to qualify and co-evolve the challenges whilst focusing on clarification. The project groups will ensure a deeper understanding of each problem, whilst making sure there are synergies between the different angles of action as they share a goal of working on the designation of the overall concept.

As part of being an official NEB-partner, we have the possibility to be in close dialogue with the European Commission regarding barriers, particularly faced by SMEs, when transforming into a sustainable and circular business. International Co-design Workshop

How do we scale, share and showcase the irresistible circular society in Europe and beyond borders?” International online event for citizens, public entities, professionals, academia and anyone who want to contribute to developing the New European Bauhaus. The workshop will have an international outreach, sessions of feedback and discussions to develop further idea generation in the work towards a finalised project proposal for an Irresistible Circular Society.

Project Workshop 3

This project workshop is the last in a line of three workshops where three project groups containing professional researchers, companies and artists work towards clarifying the challenges and detailing the overall concept of the proposal. This workshop is also based on the findings of the International co-design workshop held on June 30th. As it is the last, this workshop will focus more on finalising the proposals to the project catalogue and collect the findings from our activities prior to the expected project deadline of September 1st.

Angles of action

Three overall challenge areas are selected as ‘ways of making the mission come true’. The challenge areas encompass the project and are identified as ‘angles of action’ where the built environment reflects the frame, being regenerative is pivotal, and the Sustainable Development Goals are inherent guiding principles. Aesthetics are considered a nerve running throughout the angles of actions.
