Young people design the future – and the winner is…

The winning team is “Sittarias” for their design idea for a nice green area built upon different zones, each with an apple tree, a place to stay, and an associated activity. The apple trees refer to the name Æbleløkkerne – æble is the Danish word for apple. Circularity has been a part of the work in school. Here the design elements are built of natural and varied materials hereunder different types of wood and cork.

In the spring, the 7th-grade students at Søndermarksskolen worked with ideas for the outdoor area to inspire the two companies Ocean Prawn and Bornholms Brandforsikring behind the new residential area.

The course was organized by Desire partner Danish Industry (DI Byggeri Bornholm) as part of our New European Bauhaus EU lighthouse project at the end of the course crafts and design (håndværk og design, Danish) and supported by the Ministry of Culture in Denmark. Along the way, they were helped by architects from 3XN/GXN Architects. The school used the design tool – Think it, Sketch it, Show it! - developed as an outcome in Desire after theme weeks for 8th grades at our Desire demonstration site in Høje-Taastrup in Autumn 2023 together with our Desire partner Domea.dk and subcontractor Agora.
