Film. Desire presents: Creating a new story for BTC City Ljubljana

How do we engage the young people in the green transition? One way could be a hackathon like the one arranged at the Desire demonstration site BTC City Ljubljana in Slovenia. As a part of the Desire project, the younger generation is asked to develop ideas for shaping the green future of BTC City Ljubljana, one of Europe’s largest shopping, business, and leisure centres. Back in February, the Slovenia Desire partners, BTC and CER - Sustainable Business Network arranged a hackathon with Generation Z. Have a look at the Desire film, created by Benjamin Hesselholdt.

Picking up great ideas to support the sustainable future of the BTC City area in Ljubljana

On May 31, 2023, an inspiring workshop took place, gathering stakeholders from various sectors to envision a sustainable future for the BTC City area in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Representatives from the educational, cultural, business, and creative sectors gathered to share their ambitious ideas and collaborate on shaping a vision for the area in the year 2050. The workshop aimed to foster innovation, sustainability, and community engagement while reimagining BTC as a vibrant and environmentally friendly urban space.

This collaborative effort demonstrated a shared commitment to sustainable development, community engagement, and the well-being of future generations.

BTC City Ljubljana is an excellent test environment for the implementation of new solutions that will demonstrate how to improve the quality of living and reduce the impact of cities on climate change. The green upgrade of the BTC City area in Ljubljana will thus become an example of good sustainable practice in the region, also through international cooperation.

"The workshop united professionals and visionaries from various sectors, igniting ambitious ideas for BTC City's transformation by 2050. Fueled by innovation, sustainability, and community engagement, this collective effort exemplifies our commitment to a greener, more vibrant urban oasis by 2050. This green transformation of BTC City will serve as a shining exemplar, illuminating the path towards sustainable practices within our region and beyond, fueled by the power of international cooperation," says Ana Struna Bregar, CEO at CER Sustainable Business Network.

Andrej Janko, Head of Sustainable Development Department at BTC City, is also very satisfied:

“We are happy to hold our first Desire workshop with various stakeholders, who gave us a wide range of innovative and sustainable ideas for creating a sustainable vision of the BTC City 2050. We are already looking forward to our second workshop in September with our business partners and employees, who share our vision and want to be part of our green transformation.”
